October 25 - Day of Cable Industry Worker

On October 25, workers of the cable industry of Russia celebrate their professional holiday. On this day, workers, specialists, employees, heads of enterprises and organizations of this industry are awarded with a badge "Honored Worker of the Cable Industry" for a significant contribution to the organization, development and increase in the efficiency of cable production, as well as for the creation of competitive products, for the introduction of new technologies and technology .

The word cable comes from the Dutch kabel (rope, rope) and designates an electrical, one or more insulated conductors enclosed in a hermetic shell, on top of which protective covers are superimposed. The cable is used to transmit electrical energy or signals (high-voltage transmission lines, electric power supply to industrial enterprises, transport and communal facilities, trunk communication lines, urban telephone network, radio communication and television facilities, supplying electric power to moving working machines, electrical equipment of ships, aircraft). All these products are established in Russia thanks to professionals in the cable industry.

The design of the cable essentially depends on the conditions of its installation and operation - underground, in water, in air, in reactive media, at low or high temperatures, with high humidity.

The date of today's professional holiday is connected with the event that took place on October 25, 1879. On this day, the engineer of the German electric company Siemens and Halske, Mr. K. Simens, was given a certificate allowing work on the company's factory for the production of insulated wire and telegraph cables in the Russian city of St. Petersburg. This day is considered the day of the formation of the cable industry of Russia, the history of which, therefore, has been going on for more than 130 years.

The beginning of the 20th century was marked in Russia by the intensive development of the domestic cable industry. Cable plants were launched in Moscow, Kolchugino. In 1916, cable products in the country produced four cable plants, which during the Great Patriotic War quickly rebuilt the work in accordance with the needs of the front. Currently, the cable industry in Russia has about 350 enterprises.
